Very big, about 50mm ! The European hornet - Vespa crabro, commonly known simply as the "hornet", is the largest European eusocial wasp. European hornets are very aggressive and dangerous, and are greatly feared by some people. Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM Autofocus Lens Place: Campina, Romania
Just opening this image sends cold chills down my spine!! First, I think the DOF is good for such magnification. Technically, this is a superb job with a tough, fast moving subject. It is definitely an very interesting perspective for a wasp and I like it. The only thing I might do would crop off some of the dead space, but not too tightly. Let the background show some depth without being so large. You've captured good detail in the eyes, the hairs and even some texture in the wing, great job there! Color doesn't play as big a part in this shot as it does with many others but that isn't a bad thing. It is not striking but the tones are worm and well balanced. Overall I think this is just another excellent shot from you! Congrats!
